I’ve just been enlightened by this discovery of yours. Better late than never. I’ve witnessed things that now seem to make sense. One example of what I am speaking about happened in prayer during laying on of hands. It would appear that this cell memory may be transmittable through skin contact. When praying for a person we’ve heard of things such as personal preferences being exhibited in the one being prayed for that came from the person praying. The one time that stands out is a person who secretly started smoking again and after laying hands on someone, to pray for a totally unrelated purpose, the person came back to the pastor claiming they never smoked in their life but ever since receiving prayer had been having very strong urges to have a cigarette. Your discovery really is very remarkable and I wish I had learned of this long ago. I want to get this book and read it immediately. Thank you

    Hello Cleve!

I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I’m still hard at work after reading your book!! Still inspired by it, along with “what the bleep”… I continue to pursue my Master’s degree in quantum physics and I have you to thank!! So thank you Cleve, for being a pioneer in such a murky, yet important field! You’re the best!

… hi Franci … a friend contacted me today and snapped me back into this reality … is there still a need or desire to create simple ‘blink’ or ‘beep’ device to indicate activity that Cleve spoke of over the years … or am I so out of touch I have no idea what is going on …

  4. D Michalak Says:

I’m not a scientist, nor have any education in the field of biology. But a few years ago I became fascinated in this subject maybe because of my own personal experiences.I happen to enjoy gardening and for some reason it seems ever since I can remember I’ve always felt that plants as well as animals and insects somehow felt or knew how I felt about them.Even as I write these words I get this feeling of how I strange I would appear to family and friends if they were to read this.I guess the the thing I have the hardest time grasping is what effect if any there would be on the plant and animal world if we as humans all realized and accepted this as fact. And finally is there a chance mainstream science either fears this or for that matter already knows something we’re not aware of

  5. James Says:

I am very aware of his research and it interests me alot. I have not had the chance to read the book yet but am looking for it. I have always felt the world around us had emotions.

Alot of people right now are still doubting your work. I am a sophomore in high school and I am doing a biography on you. While I am reading this,I am getting more curious on your research

  6. Heather Preston Says:

Thanks for the wonderful work you do.
    Blessings,

  7. Franci Prowse Says:

Thank you, for your words of truth! They are precious and resonate with hope for our race.

Consciousness is now a science, and with these realizations, perhaps we can find some kind of balance in these times.

Readers, please keep writing! It is worth deleting all the spam just to see those who have it right!

    Peace,

    Hi Cleve,

We met years ago when you will be living in NYC.

You are the most neglected researcher because of the topics of your work. I might be second one because I deal with PK.

There is some new money for unorthodox research. Try: http://parapsych.org/breaking-news.html

    Hope to hear from you.

    Best New Year wishes.

I am excited to read more. I always feel a sense of wonder in the untamed places and seek them whenever it is possible. I cannot wait to learn more. Your research is timely and important..do not quit.

  10. Tom Huston Says:

    Cleve,

Hello and best wishes! I just found you and your website and book from the Coast To Coast Radio show that featured Mellen-Thomas Benedict and his near death experience. Apparently you were ‘mentioned’ on the other side when Mr. Benedict was visting with ‘the light’. Can’t wait to read your book. I have always wondered about these things you are writing about. Your work is vital to the evolutionary expansion. Thanks, Tom.

  11. Franci Prowse Says:

Tom – Mellon-THomas’ experience of hearing about the importance of Cleve Backster’s research correlates with mine. As a psychic novelist, I consented to write his book, intending that it would only take a few weeks. However, it took years! At one point, I was visited in the middle of the night by a deceased scientist, Dr. Klinkhammer, who made me promise to finish it.
He wasn’t the only one to visited me and my dreams to make sure this book was released. Franci Prowse

  12. Nathan Faulhaber Says:

Dear Mr. Backster and anyone else it may concern:

I am a biology student at Salisbury University in Maryland. Today I (barely) convinced one of my professors to let me hook up an EKG to an egg next Tuesday, March 31. We will be using an iWorx 214 EKG/EEG recorder (we do not have the amplifier for the GSR setup), with the cable setup with snap- on leads. We also have snap-on “sticky” electrodes and electrode gel. I am not sure of the metallic composition of the electrodes. My professor is concerned about getting electrode gel or salt water inside the leads, since they have small holes in them for the snaps. Should we get a reading by just sticking the electrodes directly on the egg, or should we place sponges between the electrodes and shell? Would it help to soak the egg in salt water, and if so for how long? Would electrode gel work better or worse than salt water? I have Primary Perception and know you said to sterilize everything. If this doesn’t work I may never get another chance to try. If it does I will probably get to try many more of your experiments. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks- Nathan Faulhaber

  13. Franci Prowse Says:

Dear Nathan, I called Cleve and read him your query letter.
You have the book, just do it as he wrote in the book!

He says, no pre amp needed, just pipe it into the ekg
the sponges should be boiled in salt water in order to kill bacteria.
this is not conventional electroding, and you can use rubber bands to hold the wet sponges around the egg…not too tight,
and the electrodes are outside the sponges. I don’t think he used gel – just the sponge contacting the metal plates on the leads.

The salt water in the sponges will act as a conduit through the egg shell and read inside the egg without damage to the egg.

The egg itself should be fresh, not refrigerated, even store bought – though fresh organic are more likely to be responsive.

One of our Bio web members, Gerald, did very well with the egg – filmed his dramatic responses and even tried to show it to James Randi in order to receive the 1/2 million bucks.
He was not allowed to even present it. His email is Arthur Epling

    Sincerely,

    Franci Prowse

  14. Venny Says:

    Hi,Mr. Backster
I am a junior student in China, majoring biothechnology. I’m so glad and feel amazing of your research, when I read your book (in chinese version) and DVD.
And we want to repeat your experiments to see if Chinese plants have the similar outcomes.
It’s a bit pity that I can just get a general idea from the book. Some experiment details is not so clear, for example if it is require to paint some electrolytic substance on the plant when we apply the GSR.
And I have a question: do all kinds of plants may have this response? Or just some may have the sensing capability?
So my dear Mr. Backster, do your research paper has been published and do you feel available to send me the paper? We want to repeat your experiment to see the responses of Chinese plants :) I believe that would be very fun!
Biocommunication is very charming. Thank you Mr. Backster, for you showed us another aspect of nature. And I hope human beings and plants may have a spiritual communication some day.

    Thank you,
    Venny

  15. Franci Prowse Says:

    dear Venny,
You are the first reader of Primary Perception in Chinese who has written to Cleve. I asked him to respond to your questions and this is what he said:

“I’m glad to hear from young people who have enthusiasm for seeing the effect for themselves. I have never used any substance on plant leaves, just a gentle clamping electrode.
Generally, the thicker leaves work more dependably. Some plants, like African violets, will faint and refuse to respond. I believe that any electrical current over 6-8 volts will cause the plant to faint. I once had a circuit with 12 volts, and it was too much. I believe all plants have this capability, as long as the experimenter is not unaware of their conditions. Even a leaf detached from the plant will have some response capability. I much prefer the EEG or EKG for sensitive readings. I believe that humans and plants already have a spiritual relationship, and always have. ”

Venny, if you will send me your slow mail address, I can send you a copy of the Backster protocols, which give many details which have become important in the field of biocommunication.

I do wonder, if plants know they are Chinese, or not? I’m sure you have Dracaena plants there as well.
Would the Chinese dragon plant be able to commune with a California Dracaena?

Greetings Mr. Backster and Ms. Prowse,
Last night was the first time I came across Mr. Backster’s findings on youtube during an interview. Amazing evidence of oneness. I’ve been seeking answers to synchronicity that I experience in my life more so now than ever (I am a 28 y/o female). I have ordered your book Primary Perception and Implications of the Backster Effect through Amazon today, I graciously look forward to expanding my idea of oneness through your eyes. Thank you for always seeking and never quitting. You truly are a rare enlightened human.

    Blessings always,
    Chann

  20. Franci Prowse Says:

    Dear Chann

Neither Cleve nor I have read Mr. Valone’s book about the implications – please write and let us know if it is worth reading!

    Yours in truth,

  21. Mike Says:

    Hello,

I read ‘secret life of plants’ in th early 70s. I am very interested in trying some experiments. I have recently obtained a USB device called a Neural Impulse Actuator, which is a headset used for computer gaming. It has alpha and beta wave detection capability, as well as EKG detection like eyeblinks and jaw-clenching. I would like to know if I can use this type of device?? Here is a link to the website:

    http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/ocz_peripherals/nia-neural_impulse_actuator

If Cleve could see if this device could be used, I would be very appreciative.

  22. Martin Heine Says:

I wish I could remember who was responsible for that most life changing gift I have ever received: The book “The secret life of plants” on my 15th Birthday. I started to read about Cleve Backster and others whom where experimenting with plants, their bio-signals and communication and became so intrigued, that I could not refrain from further investigation. A project publication in an electronic magazine about a medical instrumentation amplifier triggered the start to build my first green plant bio-signal measuring device. After finishing soldering all components together, I discovered that an old dishwasher perfectly fulfilled the purpose of a shielded measuring chamber. My family Doctor provided me with conductive EKG/EEG gel, and I was ready to measure. Carefully, I smeared a drop of that conductive paste onto my self made electrodes, and stuck it to the leaves of my Philodendron plant. To be able to display the plants bio-signals, I had borrowed an old mechanical x-t plotter from the Electronic lab at University Stuttgart, Germany, where I did a apprenticeship that time. The exciting life changing journey had begun. About Three years ago, the book Primary Perception triggered this passion to came back, and I started to develop a little device with a simple circuit, similar to the one of a polygraph, but instead of a needle moving on paper, the plants reactions causing a change in the light color of a illuminated glass cone. The Floranium Project was born. Floranium is still in the prototype state, but works well already. I have built about a dozen prototypes so far and I am still spending trillions of hours of fun to improve it. If someone is interested, here is the link: http://www.floranium.com. Hopefully, it will turn into a fun open source project some day, to create a global, green plant based bio-sensor network.

Thank you Cleve for changing my life as well!

  23. Philip Dawes Says:

    Dear Cleve and Franci,
I came to Cleve’s YouTube interview: via a round-about route relating to my research into the manifest problem of the evil on this planet and the answers thereto. I have never, for instance, understood ‘why’ there are carnivorous animals, or why humans eat animals. I have felt that something went wrong at a particular point in history to ’cause’ that evil; for it is an evil. It is ‘not’ natural!
This was confirmed to me several years ago when watching film footage of African tigers catching a wildebeest, and the abject terror in the wildebeest’s eyes.
Another occasion when a farmer called his vet to assist him to deliver a calf, as the cow could not give birth naturally. The vet put his arm into the cow’s birth canal to grasp the feet of the calf, which came out stillborn. At that moment the cow turned its head round towards the vet and became aware that its baby was dead; then a single teardrop fell from the cow’s eye. It once again confirmed to me that animals had emotions.
The well publicised story a couple of years ago from England, when a truckload of pigs were being lead into a slaughterhouse; two of the pigs, in terror, jumped over a six foot high wall and escaped. This was another case proving that animals had emotions and sensed fear. (The positive end to this story was that an animal sanctuary owner offered to take in the two pigs, thus saving them from ‘murder.’)

My recent research to create a new focus for my political website, (I have two others in art and health), covers the history of wars on the planet, which go back to the dawn of time, and a particular sect of people that has a longer history of evil than any other group, and I needed to find the cause of this anomaly, which I have found.

Now I have come round to Cleve and others research in the area of plant experimentation in relation to ‘humanity’s’ problem of aggression and the prevalent evil on Earth, i.e. dog eat dog.

With forty years of research, Cleve has scientifically proven that all biological life has emotion and senses fear. (I have proven this; on one occasion ‘saving’ the life of a wasp that was upside down in a birdbath of water in the garden. I used a leaf to lift the wasp out of the water and placed it on the ground to dry off, and then carried on with other things. About ten minutes later I went back to see if the wasp was still there. It had gone. Then I saw a wasp fly in a full circle around me, and I realised it was the same wasp that came to say ‘thank you!’)

Were I to have a couple of million dollars I would fund substantial scientific research in this field, replicating Cleve’s work. It needs to be done, and shall be done.

Where will all this lead? It will lead to a re-evaluation of man’s whole attitude to life upon Earth and a new respect and approach to all living things.

Thank you Cleve, for your important scientific investigations proving that biological life is more than just matter.

    Hi,
I’m new to this, but I was wondering if there are any links or posts regarding musical bio-feedback devices?

Meaning, I’ve seen some little machines that you hook up a + and – lead to the leaf and root of a plant and then the plants electrical impulses make music. I want to develop and work with these tools to further my understanding of the benefit of music for plants.

  25. Compass Rose Says:

I am so excited to have found out about Cleve Backster’s work. I remember hearing something about the yogurt experiment when I lived in Key West back in the 70′s when I studied Transcendental Meditation. But through the years I spent many years sailing around the world and having adventures. I never had contact again with Cleve’s work until now. My husband and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our book and DVD and have already started research on obtaining and building some micro-electronic measuring devices. My husband is a retired PhD Research Physicist, and although originally skeptical, I now have him excited to pursue this work. We are retired, so have all the time we want to devote to studying this subject.

I am sure that some day Cleve will be acknowledged and exalted by the world of Science for his work! It angers me to hear he has been ignored and discounted. No one would spend more than half of their life trying to promote a hoax! Cleve’s dedication and perseverance is to be totally respected and honored.
